About The Position

J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Independent Contractor with strong hands-on electrical field expertise to support Arc Flash, NFPA 70E, and other Electrical Safety projects. This opportunity is ideal for a Master Electrician, Electrical Contractor, or experienced Arc Flash specialist who brings real-world, field-based knowledge of electrical systems and safety practices. The contractor will translate NFPA 70E requirements into practical, actionable solutions for clients. This is an Independent Contractor role only and does not constitute an employment relationship. Independent Contractors must reside in the U.S. and be legally authorized to perform services within the United States. Independent Contractors must operate as an independent safety consulting business, provide services to multiple clients, supply their own tools and business processes, be responsible for all taxes and expenses, and maintain appropriate professional liability coverage.

Requirements

  • Operate as an independent safety consulting business (e.g., sole proprietor, incorporated entity, or equivalent).
  • Provide services to multiple clients and maintain a non-exclusive consulting practice.
  • Supply their own tools, methodologies, instructional materials, and business processes necessary to deliver services.
  • Be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business-related expenses.
  • Provide their own computer, equipment, and tools necessary to perform services.
  • Maintain appropriate professional liability coverage, as required under the contractual agreement.
  • Strong hands-on electrical field experience in commercial or industrial environments.
  • Must be able to independently complete arc flash assessment studies from data collection through final deliverables.
  • Practical experience applying NFPA 70E requirements in real-world settings.
  • Experience conducting electrical system assessments, troubleshooting, installation, or maintenance.
  • Experience working directly with clients in field, consulting, or project-based environments.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into clear, actionable safety guidance.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Ability to engage effectively with field personnel, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and NEC standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office or similar tools for reporting and deliverables.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and client expectations.
  • Maintains a high level of regulatory and technical expertise.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle to perform required services.

Nice To Haves

  • Master Electrician license strongly preferred.
  • Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) desired.
  • PE certification considered but not required.
  • Experience working as a Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, or Electrical Contractor.
  • Experience supporting or implementing NFPA 70E programs, including labeling and PPE assessments.
  • Background delivering electrical safety or arc flash training.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO), energized work permits, and safe work practices.
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, utilities, or multi-site operations.
  • Previous consulting or client-facing experience in safety, compliance, or electrical services.
  • Experience developing or reviewing single-line diagrams and electrical drawings.
  • Exposure to large or complex electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform arc flash assessment studies and supporting electrical system evaluations across a variety of industries.
  • Manage assigned projects from kickoff through completion, including coordination with customers.
  • Conduct on-site electrical system walkdowns, documenting equipment configurations, conductor lengths and ampacities, and overcurrent protective devices.
  • Review field data and existing documentation to support study development and project scope.
  • Perform arc flash, short circuit, and coordination studies (with focus on interpretation and application of results).
  • Conduct arc flash hazard analysis, labeling, and compliance reviews.
  • Deliver practical, hands-on NFPA 70E / arc flash training to client personnel.
  • Perform electrical safety audits and gap analyses, including report creation and communication of findings.
  • Identify electrical code and safety compliance issues (NEC/NFPA based).
  • Develop arc flash deliverables including arc flash labels, single-line diagrams, and recommendations to reduce incident energy and improve worker safety.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) supporting internal teams and client engagements.
