About The Position

The Independent Category Manager will be a highly motivated, results-oriented sales leader with experience in the beverage or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, responsible for managing and growing our share of business in the Independent Channel. The manager will plan, develop, and execute shelf set schematics to optimize product performance in the independent retail environment, particularly in high volume outlets. Preferred qualifications include experience in retail grocery or consumer goods, with an understanding of space-to-sales ratios. A successful track record in sales and proficiency in utilizing sales data to initiate programs and schematics are required. The Independent Category Manager will be responsible for activating and monitoring the SESS space platform across all major independent retail partners. The Independent Category Manager will work with the Chain Category Manager as needed.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in off-premise retail sales & merchandising.
  • Proficiency in using data sales analysis tools and software, such as Microsoft Excel, to analyze and interpret sales data.
  • Strong understanding of retail financial principles and ability to analyze profitability and interpret sales data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and influence others.
  • PowerPoint proficiency to assist with building supporting sales presentations.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to travel as required for supplier meetings or industry events.
  • Valid driver’s license, NYSLA Solicitor’s Permit.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify emerging trends, competitor activity, and consumer preferences within beverage category to inform strategic decisions.
  • Utilize space software and other technology to work towards optimizing beer assortment.
  • Analyze internal and external data (VIP/Circana/Nielsen) to partner with retailers for shared business growth.
  • Create and execute category strategy to achieve goals developed by SESS and supplier partners.
  • Build and maintain retail relationships in all independent markets.
  • Develop call frequency with major independent partners.
  • Provide recaps and reports to management through reporting platforms, scorecards and presentations.
  • Work in a highly competitive and fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively communicate planogram and assortment updates through SharePoint to the field sales force.
  • Inspire subordinates and effect change.
  • Assist in training field sales with ongoing space surveys and technologies (e.g., IRIS).
  • Assist field sales through work withs and team sells to drive share growth within independent channel.
