About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to determine the eligibility of applicants for the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Program, periodically review these eligibility determinations, and authorize FNS benefits to those certified as eligible. The employee is responsible for the entire process of determining and/or redetermining applicant/client eligibility for the FNS program, which includes intake, processing, and review functions. This involves interviewing clients, reviewing electronically collected data (such as ePASS), entering information into a web-based application to complete initial applications and verify data, determining and verifying eligibility, completing scheduled reviews by processing updated information, explaining program requirements and options, and referring clients to other services as appropriate. The work involves performing various activities during each phase of the eligibility determination process using a state-interconnected web-based application.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Determining the eligibility of applicants for the FNS Program.
  • Periodically reviewing eligibility determinations.
  • Authorizing FNS benefits to eligible clients.
  • Conducting intake functions to obtain client data regarding family composition, finances, employment, and health status.
  • Processing clients' applications through verification of all obtained information.
  • Performing redetermination or review of clients' cases on a periodic basis to re-verify eligibility for continued participation.
  • Interviewing clients and/or reviewing other forms of media including electronically collected data.
  • Entering information into a web-based application to complete initial applications and verify information.
  • Determining and/or verifying eligibility using a web-based application.
  • Completing scheduled reviews by obtaining required information and processing updated information in a web-based application.
  • Explaining requirements and options for obtaining services.
  • Advising or referring clients to other services as appropriate.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
