About The Position

The Community Services Division is looking for dynamic, thoughtful, and resourceful staff to work with recreation program participants with exceptionalities. The Municipality provides support for participants who require additional assistance to be successful attending our recreation programs. Our seasonal recreation programs operate September 2026 through to June 2027. This is a Front Line work model position.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age and exhibit maturity, responsibility, and leadership qualities.
  • Previous work / volunteer experience supervising children (between ages 4 and 17 years of age), specifically those with disabilities or other special needs or adults (18+) with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Experience developing and implementing adaptive programming for participants to provide inclusion of children and/or adults with exceptionalities in programs.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Successful candidates must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.
  • Successful candidates must obtain a PHCD certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required for the successful candidate.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a related field is an asset (i.e., Educational Assistant, Nursing, Therapeutic Recreation, Developmental Services Support Worker etc.).
  • Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification would be an asset at time of interview.
  • Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview.
  • Currently certification in Behaviour Management Systems training would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing daily recreation program activities; suggest / implement program and environmental adaptations to create an inclusive environment.
  • Supervising and interacting with participants by providing 1:1 or 1:2 support to ensure they have a positive experience through the adaptation of planned activities in order to provide them with an inclusive experience supporting their involvement in all activities.
  • Ensuring the safety of participants at all times.
  • Collecting accurate attendance figures daily and maintain weekly statistics.
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers and supervisors. On-going effective communication with the families / guardians of participants of inclusion services to discuss participant needs and strategies for success.
  • When necessary, assisting recreation program participants with self-care needs (children's programs only). Examples of self-care include but are not limited to toileting, changing of clothes and / or diapers, lifts, and transfers, feeding (enforcing specialized diets, hand over hand, opening packages, spoon feeding).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Rate of pay: $20.00 per hour (2026 rate).
