About The Position

The Inbound Inspector supports yard operations by inspecting inbound materials and verifying compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws and guidelines before receiving materials. The role also helps move traffic safely and efficiently through the yard and maintains clear, professional communication with customers, truck drivers, and team members.

Harmon Scrap Metal recycles scrap metal at scale. Its mission is to empower people to recycle the past to impact the future, guided by the values of discipline, trust, alignment, accountability, and adaptability.

The position pays $18 per hour. The work involves exposure to permanent magnets and electromagnets, which may interfere with electronic medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators.

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
• Ability to communicate using hand signals and two-way radios.
• Ability to learn laws and regulations governing scrap metal purchasing.
• Ability to make decisions about the quality of received metals in accordance with company policies.
• Ability to use a tablet to enter information into software efficiently.
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull a minimum of 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Knowledge of ferrous and nonferrous metals (preferred).
• Experience working in a scrap yard (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming materials to ensure they meet company quality and safety standards.
• Guide traffic entering and leaving the yard to maintain a safe, efficient traffic pattern and communicate with the scale house.
• Communicate with customers, truck drivers, and operators, directing them to the appropriate areas and ensuring materials are unloaded safely.
• Make appropriate decisions about commodity purchases, rejections, and deductions.
• Enter all appropriate information into the software immediately after inspection.
• Attend and participate in internal meetings and complete required training.
• Perform other related duties assigned by management.
