The Inbound Freight Handler loads and unloads freight onto and off of equipment and assists with recouping damaged freight. The role includes preparing, sweeping, inspecting, and cleaning trailers before loading. Handlers use safe lifting techniques and appropriate freight-handling equipment to move, arrange, and unload shipments. The position also involves weighing and measuring shipments; planning trailer cube utilization and weight distribution; counting and inspecting freight and documenting shortages or damage; reviewing freight bills, manifests, labels, destination codes, and special instructions; and checking headloads against freight bills. When handling hazardous materials, the handler verifies product descriptions, identifies paperwork discrepancies, and checks proper placarding. Freight must be blocked and braced to prevent shifting during transport.
