In-Store Shopping Clerk
About The Position
The In-Store Shopping Clerk works in the store to shop for and fulfill customers’ online orders using a mobile device with the Instacart Shopper App. The role focuses on excellent customer service, product quality and freshness, and communicating order changes, including substitutions for items that may be out of stock. The clerk processes transactions using the in-store POS system and serves as an online ambassador, answering questions about order delivery, the Instacart platform, and the benefits of using the service. The clerk may also assist in other store areas by stocking shelves, filling frozen food bins, and maintaining the store’s cleanliness and presentation. The position requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the workday, walking up to three miles in an eight-hour shift, and maneuvering a utility cart holding 20 pounds with up to 35 pounds of force for up to two hours and a distance of up to 20 feet. Other related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact positively with customers.
- Good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
- Ability to operate front-end equipment, including a register, calculator, and scanner.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout the entire workday.
- Ability to maneuver a utility cart holding 20 pounds, requiring up to 35 pounds of force, for up to two hours and a distance of up to 20 feet.
- Ability to walk up to three miles in an eight-hour shift.
Responsibilities

- Provide excellent customer service, focusing on product quality and freshness, and substitute potential out-of-stock items.
- Communicate necessary changes to an order.
- Process order transactions using the in-store POS system.
- Answer questions about order delivery, the Instacart platform, and the benefits of using the service.
- May assist with stocking shelves, filling frozen food bins, and maintaining the store’s cleanliness and presentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
