About The Position

The In-Room Dining Server is responsible for delivering food and beverage orders to guest rooms according to hotel specifications, courteously and efficiently. This role also assists in the maintenance of the In-Room Dining area and equipment. The Langham Huntington, Pasadena, Los Angeles is located in Pasadena, California, in the heart of an upscale residential neighborhood. The hotel is situated near Pasadena's vibrant shopping and entertainment district, as well as must-see spots like the Rose Bowl stadium and The Huntington Library.

  • Ability to understand guests' service needs.
  • Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to guest rooms within any given period of time.
  • Ability to focus on details.
  • Ability to maintain good coordination while serving orders quickly.
  • Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  • High school graduate, some college.
  • Two year’s experience as a In-Room Dining Server.
  • Food handling certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in In-Room Dining order taking is preferred.
  • Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service is preferred.
  • Certification in C.P.R is preferred.
  • Certification in alcohol awareness program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete knowledge of all liquor brands, beers and non-alcoholic selections available in In-Room Dining.
  • Maintain knowledge of the particular characteristics and description of every wine/champagne by the glass and major wines on the wine list.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of designated glassware and garnishes for drinks.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, preparation method, ingredients, sauces, preparation time, garnishes, presentation and prices.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of guest room layout, locations and room numbers/names.
  • Maintain complete knowledge and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment, use equipment only as intended.
  • Maintain complete knowledge and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of Micros and manual systems.
  • Answer In-Room Dining phone within 3 rings, using correct salutations and telephone etiquette.
  • Complete opening side duties as assigned, including checking stock and supplies, folding napkins, requisitioning supplies, setting tables and trays, setting up condiments and beverages, ensuring sufficient silverware, glassware and chinaware, preparing cold food items, and checking equipment cleanliness.
  • Retrieve all food orders from the kitchen and alcoholic beverage items from the bar and place them on tables/trays according to departmental standards.
  • Transport tables/trays from the In-Room Dining area to guest rooms, ensuring food presentation standards are maintained and no spillage occurs.
  • Enter guest rooms and place tables/trays according to established departmental procedures.
  • Serve food items and beverages to guests in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Open and serve wine/champagne bottles.
  • Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests.
  • Maintain positive guest relations.
  • Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities.
  • Handle guest complaints following instant pacification procedures and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Present checks to guests for signature/payment and adhere to all payment procedures.
  • Set up and deliver amenities to designated rooms.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all service areas, guest rooms, and guest corridors.
  • Transport tables/trays from guest rooms to the In-Room Dining area.
  • Clean and reset tables/trays, maintaining a sufficient supply in the In-Room Dining area.
  • Collect and report tips at the end of the assigned shift.
  • Complete closing side duties, including storing goods, breaking down goods, cleaning equipment, restocking items, removing dirty linen, folding napkins, stocking condiments, and resetting tables/trays.
  • Complete all closing reports as assigned.
  • AM: Set up and deliver doorknob orders.
  • PM: Collect doorknob menus from guest rooms.
  • Complete the training/certification process.
  • Relieve Order Taker/Cashier as assigned, including taking guest orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques, inputting orders into the system, documenting orders when the system is down, and processing payments.
  • Obtain cigars/cigarettes when requested by guests.
  • Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
  • Replace flowers in bud vases.
  • Polish silver trays and coffee pots.
  • Expedite on floor or in kitchen as assigned.
  • Complete office paperwork (filing).
  • Document pertinent information in the In-Room Dining logbook.
  • Document maintenance needs on work orders and submit to the manager.
