About The Position

The M Group of Companies is seeking an experienced and business-minded In-House Legal Counsel to join their real estate and property management organization. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and Member in Good Standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in real estate and corporate law
  • Experience working with REITs, LPs, real estate investment structures, or private corporate entities
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience
  • Experience advising executive leadership teams
  • Ability to independently manage complex legal matters
  • Strong business acumen and strategic mindset
  • E&O insurable

Nice To Haves

  • In-house legal experience
  • Exposure to securities law
  • Experience in construction, development, or property management environments
  • Familiarity with ONland, Teraview, Ontario Business Registry, or similar platforms
  • Experience working in growth-stage or entrepreneurial environments

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel across real estate, corporate, securities, and compliance matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate leases, purchase agreements, development agreements, joint ventures, and commercial contracts
  • Support acquisitions, due diligence processes, and real estate transactions
  • Oversee corporate governance, filings, and maintenance of minute books
  • Advise on regulatory compliance, privacy, and risk mitigation
  • Interpret legislation and assess operational impacts
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, municipalities, lenders, and regulators
  • Identify process improvements and build scalable legal systems across the organization
  • Deliver internal legal awareness training to leadership and operational teams
