About The Position

CTG is seeking to fill an IMS Tools & Database Specialist position for our client. This is an ongoing contract role. The specialist will be responsible for installing, configuring, and managing IBM IMS and IMS Tools in a Parallel Sysplex environment. Key duties include IMS systems programming, database administration, monitoring, space management, and managing various IMS database structures. The role also involves developing and maintaining essential IMS processes, establishing database management procedures, evaluating upgrades and technical impacts, supporting disaster recovery, leading complex migrations, developing project plans, troubleshooting production issues, providing vendor consultation, and conducting customer training.

Requirements

  • IBM IMS Tools and IMS systems programming.
  • IMS database administration and database organization.
  • VSAM, OSAM, HALDB, PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, PSINDEX, HDAM, HIDAM, HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, GSAM, and DEDB.
  • IMS Catalog, IMS Management of ACBs, Online Change, ACBGEN, DBDGEN, and PSBGEN.
  • Secondary indexes, PROCSEQ, PROCOPT, database utilities, monitoring, and space management.
  • Parallel Sysplex and z/OS environments.
  • Disaster recovery, database security, maintenance, and migration.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical consulting, project planning, and customer training skills.
  • Proven experience administering and supporting IBM IMS databases and IMS Tools in enterprise z/OS environments.
  • Experience with complex IMS Tools migrations and production database troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing database policies, procedures, recovery strategies, and project plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

Nice To Haves

  • BMC IMS Tools and/or Broadcom IMS Tools experience preferred.
  • z/OS scheduling expertise and IMS DBA experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage IBM IMS and IMS Tools in a Parallel Sysplex environment.
  • Perform IMS systems programming, database administration, monitoring, and space management.
  • Manage IMS database structures including VSAM, OSAM, Full-Function, HALDB, Fast Path/DEDB, secondary indexes, and logical databases.
  • Develop and maintain DBD, PSB, ACB, DBDGEN, PSBGEN, and ACBGEN processes.
  • Establish database management, disaster recovery, security, maintenance, and utilization procedures.
  • Evaluate IMS upgrades, change requests, and technical impacts; provide recommendations.
  • Support disaster recovery and recovery of application objects.
  • Lead complex migrations from third-party products to IBM IMS Tools.
  • Develop project plans covering planning, conversion, implementation, and cutover phases.
  • Troubleshoot production database issues, including VSAM out-of-space conditions and database locking.
  • Provide vendor consultation and technical support.
  • Conduct customer training and develop technical presentation materials.
