About The Position

SLB is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Import/Export Specialist to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will support international trade compliance and logistics operations across the organization, ensuring the efficient movement of goods while maintaining compliance with Canadian import and export regulations. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Procurement, Sourcing, Finance, Customs Brokers, and Freight Forwarders to coordinate shipments, manage customs and trade compliance activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in customs and trade compliance and international logistics.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience with HS classification, import/export regulations, customs processes, and international transportation by air and sea.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work and reside in Canada without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation is preferred.
  • Experience within the oil and gas industry is considered an asset.
  • Experience with SAP is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods (DG), dual-use items, and controlled materials is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Classify products and assign accurate HS tariff codes while providing guidance on valuation, origin, duties, permits, trade controls, and other import/export requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade requirements, and company policies through the management of import/export documentation, records, compliance systems, audits, reporting, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, manage day-to-day customs and trade compliance activities, and serve as the local subject matter expert for customs and trade compliance matters.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize duty costs through free trade agreements, customs programs, and continuous process improvements, while managing customs broker performance.
  • Coordinate and manage international shipments through air and ocean transportation, including the preparation of export documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate and collaborate with freight forwarders to secure effective transportation solutions and support efficient cargo movements.
  • Maintain logistics documentation and records in accordance with company policies and procedures while providing shipment updates and logistics support to internal stakeholders.
  • Support after-hours activities when required.
