About The Position

The Import/Export Operations Specialist coordinates international import and export shipments and helps keep shipments moving from pre-alert through arrival, cargo recovery, customs clearance, and final handoff. The role requires hands-on experience in international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or import/export operations, as well as initiative and the ability to resolve day-to-day operational issues independently. The position is in person at Johnson Road in Lawrence, New York. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an hour for lunch.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience in import/export operations, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or international logistics is preferred.
Working knowledge of international airfreight, import procedures, and customs clearance processes.
Familiarity with MAWB/HAWB and other shipping documentation.
Experience using freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or logistics systems.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to take ownership, follow up independently, and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice To Haves

Experience with ACE, ABI, AMS, ACAS, or customs entry processing.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and track international import and export shipments from pre-alert through arrival, cargo recovery, customs clearance, and final handoff.
Review master and house air waybills (MAWB/HAWB), commercial invoices, and packing lists for accuracy and completeness.
Coordinate with airlines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouses, and trucking providers.
Follow up on shipment delays, missing information, holds, and releases.
Resolve discrepancies involving shipment data, documentation, and delivery.
Keep customers and internal teams informed about shipment status and operational issues.
Support customs-related processes and work with brokerage and warehouse teams.
Maintain accurate shipment records and operational reports.
