About The Position

Impact Managers (IMs) lead and develop teams of full-time student success coaches as idealistic, emerging leaders and practitioners who provide holistic support to students, classrooms, and school communities. Reporting to an Impact Director and working primarily from partner school(s), IMs play a critical role in implementing City Year’s Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) service model, mission, and practices. This position is responsible for three core areas of work: team development and experience, school partnerships, and City Year’s impact goals. Impact Managers support their teams through a challenging and rewarding year of service while helping create the conditions for student and school success.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in youth development, people management, education, or comparable experience
  • Authorized documentation to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks as required for working with school-age children

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching, supervising, or developing young adults
  • Experience working in schools or youth development settings
  • Experience using data to inform decisions
  • Experience with instructional coaching is a plus
  • Knowledge of local school district context is a plus
  • City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and coach a team ranging from 6-10 AmeriCorps members with the age range of 18-25-year-olds completing a year of service to achieve service impact with students and reach their leadership development potential.
  • Monitor performance through consistent check-ins, clear expectations, timely feedback, and appropriate accountability measures, including documentation and corrective action when necessary.
  • Mentor student success coaches through career exploration and decision-making, helping them clarify their post‑service goals and build skills and networks to pursue their next step.
  • Ensure student success coaches successfully meet AmeriCorps service requirements, including service hours, documentation, and adherence to prohibited activities and program policies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture that supports collaboration, belonging, and high performance.
  • Address performance, conduct, and service-related concerns in accordance with City Year policies, procedures, and AmeriCorps requirements.
  • Lead team in implementing City Year’s service model, including classroom support, individualized tutoring, schoolwide initiatives, extended learning time, and other supports aligned to school priorities.
  • Coach team members to deliver differentiated tutoring and coaching for students in English-Language Arts, math, and interpersonal skills development.
  • Use and interpret student- and program-level data to identify trends, guide coaching priorities, and inform decisions with school partners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely collection and entry of service and student data.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between City Year and the school, building strong relationships with principals, teachers, and staff to align service with school priorities and follow through on shared decisions.
  • Participate in regular meetings with school leadership and partners to discuss progress, needs, and conditions for success.
  • Navigate competing priorities and stakeholder needs while maintaining alignment to City Year goals, service expectations, and school partner commitments.
  • Collaborate effectively with teammates to achieve sitewide goals and foster an inclusive environment.
  • Contribute to corps member learning by leading or cofacilitating training sessions during start-of‑year onboarding and ongoing learning & development days.
  • Reinforce centralized training through on‑the‑job coaching, reflection, and team learning activities.
  • Role model a growth mindset, inclusive leadership practices, and commitment to City Year's culture and values.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor to advance City Year’s mission.
