About The Position

The Impact Director (ID) is responsible for the overall management of the day-to-day programmatic operations, ensuring the achievement of City Year’s mission and overall service excellence through the successful implementation of the Whole School Whole Child service model by managing and developing Impact Managers and corps members to build and cultivate strong school partnerships and developing a group of committed, idealistic leaders and school practitioners; the successful completion of transformational physical service days and volunteer engagement; and ensuring an impactful and inspirational corps experience as well as corps member development. Impact Directors supervise Impact Managers, oversee the members in their program, ensure a strong service impact, create opportunities for engaging outside volunteers/visitors, foster opportunities for member development and support the overall efforts of City Year’s mission statement.

  • Must be able to identify and engage staff within partner schools.
  • Must be able to communicate findings to the site’s leadership team.
  • Must be able to lead the development and execution of the site’s Whole School Whole Child strategy.
  • Must be able to review best practices from City Year and education experts.
  • Must be able to participate in conference calls and respond to emails.
  • Must be able to complete other tasks as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Impact Department strategy, school district management, data access and district agreements, evaluation, Impact Department budget management, and corps Volunteer experience.
  • Manage overall aspects of the school district partnerships in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Ensure a high level of quality, detail, and measurable impact with students off-track from high school graduation.
  • Work with site leadership and school partners to identify and communicate City Year Buffalo’s long-term impact strategy to achieve long-term impact goals.
  • Determine potential new schools, develop education partnerships, and build sustainable district relationships.
  • Responsible for routine communication with key stakeholders in the schools as well as the Impact Managers.
  • Work closely with Impact Managers to ensure the message and implementation of service are aligned (especially the weekly/bi-weekly Early Warning Indicator meetings).
  • Manage the Impact Department budget, which includes approving requests, managing spending strategy, and coordinating with the operations department to track spending.
  • Play a leading role in guiding, motivating, and managing staff in a collaborative and community-minded environment as well as sharpening and advancing the execution of the service model under the leadership of the Executive Director.
  • Understand the current education environment in the City of Buffalo & City Year Buffalo’s partner schools.
  • Work closely with the local City Year Partners point persxon(s) to make sure all goals are met, and local staff Volunteers feel informed and invested in the partnership.
  • Identify and engage staff within our partner school to educate them about City Year Buffalo’s service and ways to support it.
  • Attend external meetings, join community groups or work groups, and track media on education topics.
  • Communicate findings to the site’s leadership team to inform on new developments that may affect our education vision and service.
  • Lead the development and execution of the site’s Whole School Whole Child strategy for product development and content management implementation, review, and evaluation.
  • Take part in school observations, obtain feedback from Student Success Coaches, staff Volunteers and school partners, review best practices from City Year and education experts, and review City Year data.
  • Target areas of strength and improvement to promote to colleagues or to address through additional training and resources.
  • Be an active Volunteer of the City Year national network by participating in conference calls, responding to e-mails, and completing other tasks as necessary.
  • May be asked to lead on select network initiatives.
