About The Position

The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve 200 middle and high school students throughout the city each year. This High School In-Person Instructor position will teach the Immunology & Human Health course. This course examines the body's immune system and the ways it protects against disease. Students will look at the cells, organs, and molecules that defend the body from bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. This course also addresses how vaccines function, what triggers allergies, and the way autoimmune diseases develop. This biology elective is designed for students interested in strengthening their science literacy skills and exploring STEM careers.

Requirements

  • Availability for each program day from 10:30am-12pm
  • Strong background in the subject area
  • Experience in a teaching capacity within subject area
  • Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum
  • Have a strong classroom management style

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in biology or related subject
  • Prior teaching experience with high school or undergraduate students
  • Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style
  • Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels
  • Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students' abilities

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach curriculum for 20-22 students
  • Evaluate student and group performance often
  • Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
  • Monitor and maintain accurate student attendance records
  • Reassess curriculum based on students' needs, interests, and understanding of materials
  • Other duties as assigned
