About The Position

The Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Group Lead position is intended for individuals with prior experience working in an IHC laboratory. The individual in this position will perform all routine IHC functions, handle escalated issues and troubleshoot quality issues. The individual will provide supervisory level coverage for the day to day operations of the IHC laboratory in the supervisor’s absence.

Requirements

  • 3 years Immunohistochemistry experience.
  • 6 years of experience are required for any individual providing supervisory coverage in a New York State licensed laboratory.
  • Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Immunohistochemistry Testing SOP.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Associates Degree AS degree or equivalent training and experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree BS degree required for New York State licensed laboratories (Preferred)
  • Qualification in Immunohistochemistry Q(IHC) (Preferred)
  • Previous histopathology experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists the supervisor or manager in the day-to-day operation of the IHC lab on the assigned shift.
  • Helps to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the department.
  • Capable of performing all of the duties/responsibilities of an IHC Technologist.
  • Confer with and /or make recommendations to the supervisor concerning the operation of the department including policies, procedures, and equipment applications.
  • Provide training and guidance on IHC staining processes to newly hired IHC Technologists, as well as Histotechnicians/Histotechnologists, students and lab aides that may perform IHC related processes.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment/instrumentation.
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, and document all quality control activities; has the ability to recognize outliers and correct them.
  • Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable staining of IHC control slides.
  • May be required to develop, execute, or validate new procedures.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and resolve or immediately report to histology supervisor, technical supervisor, or director.
  • Appropriately handle proficiency test samples and associated documentation.
  • Assist supervisor with facilitation of departmental training, competency assessments and continuing education.
  • Provide input to the supervisor for employee performance reviews.
  • Maintain the daily operation of the shift in the absence of the histology supervisor.
  • Assist supervisor with special projects, as assigned.
  • Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
