About The Position

The Immigration Specialist provides immigration services to refugees, immigrants, asylees, Afghan and Ukrainian Humanitarian Paroles and Special Immigration Visa (SIV) clients. This position reports to the ANA Program Director.

Requirements

• Ability to work effectively with refugee families of diverse backgrounds
• Readiness to become DOJ, OLAP partially accredited representative ASAP
• Organized and pay attention to details
• Ability to take initiative and work independently when required while maintaining team orientation toward the provision of services
• Ability to work as a part of a team with other staff members
• Understanding of the challenges facing newly resettled refugees
• Multicultural work or volunteer experience, preferably with refugee and immigrant populations
• Ability to interpret and follow applicable rules and guidelines
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
• Access to reliable transportation and proof of state mandated automobile liability insurance coverage
• Completion of a criminal history background check post offer of employment

Nice To Haves

• Bi-lingual ability preferred: Pashto, Dari or Swahili language

Responsibilities

• Interpret immigration and department policies
• Conduct initial assessments on immigration cases to determine eligibility for immigration benefits
• Assist clients with various immigration and family reunification processes
• Ensure immigration paperwork and applications are completed accurately and in timely manner
• Refer clients to an immigration attorney for cases that are too complicated for ANA services
• Maintain information in designated database
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), government and social service organizations, and community organizations
• Remain current on immigration law, policies and procedures
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
