About The Position

Ensures diagnostic/therapeutic or imaging equipment meets manufacturer’s specifications for safe and proper use by the performance of routine safety inspections, scheduled maintenance (SM), calibrations, repairs, updates, etc. of assigned equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a technical area of study.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of directly related work experience may substitute for the associate’s degree (in addition to the requirement listed in the Experience section).
  • Military training may be substituted for equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of six (6) months internship in the repair and maintenance of medical radiological/imaging equipment or a minimum of two (2) years of clinical equipment maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Performs incoming inspections on new equipment as assigned.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and safety testing on clinical equipment items, devices and systems as assigned (owned, leased, or rented), using specialized test equipment, tools, simulation devices, and phantoms. Documents all actions and test results according to department policy, using the CMMS program – with 98% accuracy and timeliness.
  • Verifies equipment malfunctions and performs corrective maintenance actions on clinical radiological/imaging devices, instruments and systems as assigned.

  • Assists outside vendors in their delivery of repair services, monitors completion of repairs, and audits their service report to ensure proper documentation and to verify charges. Enters service event into the CMMS system including complete cost details of service event – with 98% accuracy and timeliness.
  • Identifies malfunctioning parts and assemblies and determines the best source for acquiring the needed component(s), taking into account financial and time constraints.
  • Assists outside vendors and/or monitors the completion of preventive maintenance activities performed on assigned equipment and audits their service report to ensure proper documentation and verify charges. Enters service event into the CMMS including complete cost details of service event – with 98% accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to department management staff concerning the need to make changes to the PM schedule frequency, procedures and/or data documentation forms.
  • Increases current knowledge of the clinical application of equipment, devices, instruments, and systems so as to be able to ascertain whether or not such equipment is operating in a safe and effective manner.
  • Attends manufacturer or other technical service training schools and seminars, as assigned.
  • Meets/Contacts with equipment manufacturers and service organizations to discuss repair, maintenance, and applications of equipment.
  • Reviews technical literature, service manuals, trade publications, and any other biomedical service and support documents as assigned as a means to keep up with current clinical engineering and service/support related issues.
  • Assists with assigned projects, related to the installation, repair, relocation, and ongoing maintenance of equipment, devices, instruments, and systems.
  • Performs rounds in assigned areas to make assessments as to how the covered equipment is being utilized, and to answer any operational questions from equipment users.
  • Responds to stat requests from equipment users to determine the extent of reported problems and makes the determination as to who is best capable of resolving the suspected problem, using in-house CE resources or outside vendor service sources.
  • Keeps equipment users and leaders informed as to the status of repairs.
  • Analyzes the need and coordinates all necessary in-services education/training as assigned or required within a timely fashion.
  • May assist the Hospital’s educational staff with and/or delivers technical in-service education sessions to equipment users in assigned clinical units, all shifts.
  • Assists with the coordination of integrating supported imaging equipment and systems to the hospital IT systems and networks.
  • Installs or coordinates with the vendor to install any required or periodic software patches or updates.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for on-call duty as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Participates in job specific training and insures oneself maintains current on all job specific educational and competency. requirements.
  • Understands and maintains current status on all regulatory requirements. Adheres to delivering all services within all state, Governmental, and accreditation agency requirement.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as per OH HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Attends department in-services and meetings as scheduled.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement (PI) activities.
  • Orlando Health may require technicians to utilize their personal vehicles to travel between jobsites. The technician will be responsible to track their mileage per IRS rules. The technician may submit mileage for reimbursement at Orlando Health’s current rate of reimbursement. All reimbursement requests are subject to approval.
  • Practices efficient use of supplies and reports inventory deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates entry level ability to organize work priorities with supervisory oversight.

  • Shows a willingness to learn new areas and take on more responsibility.

  • Independently serve periods of on-call coverage at scheduled intervals.
  • May be required to support unplanned events during after-hours and weekends.
