About The Position

Develops methods and procedures for complex imaging research studies independently. Participates in and/or leads the development and implementation of imaging research studies in conjunction with Principal Investigator, and contributes to research publication and training of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students in all aspects of fMRI research studies. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years relevant work experience
  • Scientific Instrumentation (Advanced): Demonstrates knowledge and use of scientific instrumentation in practical applications
  • Anatomy & Physiology Knowledge (Advanced): Possesses sufficient anatomy and physiology knowledge, training, and experience. Ability to apply knowledge to real world situations.
  • Regulatory Compliance (Advanced): Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations and apply them in difficult, stressful and complex situations. Able to interpret and explain rules and regulations that are ambiguous or unclear. Directs others in interpreting rules and regulations on the job and trains others in them.
  • Imaging Development and Application (Intermediate): Demonstrates expertise in the utilization and modification of imaging technologies and relevant concepts in physics and engineering for diverse applications
  • Laboratory Techniques (Advanced): Demonstrates proficiency in laboratory practices including chemistry and molecular biology
  • Image Analysis and Processing (Advanced): Demonstrates familiarity with software packages and databases used for image analysis and processing. Able to apply image analysis programs to provide measurements of structure or physiological outputs using state-of-the-art software programs. Able to develop scripts and programs to modify image analysis software for customer applications.
  • Electronics (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in the design and fabrication of electronic devices, both digital and analog
  • Technical Writing (Intermediate): Possesses the ability to describe procedures and data in writing to communicate to readers of grants, papers, and other documents.
  • Communication (Advanced): Clearly, effectively and respectfully communicates to employees or customers.
  • Data Analysis (Advanced): The ability to analyze data in an accurate manner.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, exercise discretion and independent judgment to develop methods and procedures for research conducted with complex scientific imaging equipment; design functional studies appropriately utilizing this equipment, perform analysis on resulting imaging data
  • Supervise set-up and operation of wide variety of scientific experiments involving complex protocols and equipment
  • Protocol development. Conduct experimental design/analysis. Write imaging protocol and oversee its implementation.
  • Informed Consent. Write IRB proposals, study subject consent forms, and work with IRB to finalize approval. Monitor IRB compliance throughout study and submit regulatory reports.
  • Participate in and/or lead the development and implementation of imaging research studies in conjunction with Principal Investigator (PI) Design the study including procedures, protocols and quality control measures.
  • Contribute to research publications and grants: Present research findings at local and national research conferences, Conduct literature and library searches and oversee data collection programs, Develop reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
  • Prepare, operate and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures. Recommend equipment and supplies needed for research projects.
  • Training of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students in all aspects of fMRI research studies. Training and supervising technical staff, medical and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Provide guidance and consultations to students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty as needed. Assist in the training of others throughout VU (faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students) to utilize techniques in their research.
