About The Position

Under the direction of a technologist/radiologist, the imaging care technician (ICT) is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The ICT demonstrates department-designated competencies and assists in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing, incorporating concepts of relationship-centered care.

Requirements

HS Diploma or GED
Six (6) months of previous related experience in patient care delivery required.
Successful completion of formal department orientation required to meet quality and productivity standards.
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other employees.
Ability to follow instructions and record patient information.
Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and organize work.
Ability to walk and stand for 90% of shift.
Ability to lift, turn, and position patients.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details for over 90% of time.
Able to work in an area with potential exposure to infectious agents and/or contaminants.

Responsibilities

Performs specific tasks as delegated.
Provides timely feedback and follow-up to radiology staff regarding patient response.
Receives and provides report to other caregivers.
Promptly responds to patient requests.
Informs patients about planned procedures and treatments to reduce fear and anxieties and encourage cooperation.
Performs modality-specific tasks such as venipuncture, obtaining blood specimens, starting and discontinuing IV lines (not regulating drip rate), routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry.
Gathers data for post-procedure checks such as peripheral pulses, vital signs, presence of hematoma, and circulation checks.
Performs patient care functions within systems such as PACS, RIS, and Hospital Order-Entry System.
Records patient information and required data in appropriate areas.
Transports patients as needed.
Performs modality-specific patient interviews/tasks such as pre-MRI screening, contrast forms, and patient history forms.
Discontinues peripheral intravenous lines.
Collects, sends, and takes labeled specimens to the lab.
Obtains pertinent information from patient charts such as admitting assessment/diagnosis, allergies, and list of medications.
Assists in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe patient care environment.
Orients patient/family to waiting and changing areas.
Prepares patients for exams, verifies patient identity and exam.
Prepares exam rooms, assists with transfers to/from modality tables, and assists with patient discharge.
Cleans and maintains equipment according to procedures.
Gathers post-procedural data for entry into the Radiology Information System (RIS).
Checks and restocks equipment and supplies.
Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills.
Performs other unit-specific duties as delegated.
Seeks ongoing learning experiences by attending appropriate in-services, continuing education, and mandatory programs.
Attends annual radiation safety in-service as modality requires.
Applies awareness of potential radiation hazards and observes appropriate radiation safety.
Attends annual BLS certification.
