About The Position

Under general supervision, performs patient preparations and screening processes, as well as transporting patients for the department. This role requires providing health care services to all age groups and demonstrating competence in interpersonal relationships. The Imaging Assistant utilizes the Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS), and PACS. Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols, infection prevention guidelines, and proper waste disposal. The role involves transporting and moving patients safely, using appropriate handling devices, and following the Universal Protocol for patient identification. Communication techniques such as SBAR are used for patient hand-offs. The assistant helps outpatients, ensures patient comfort and confidentiality, and may provide coverage for clerical staff. Understanding and executing roles in emergency and disaster plans, as well as cleaning and maintaining equipment like wheelchairs and gurneys, are also essential. Department-specific duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments, preparing paperwork, ordering supplies, assisting technologists, restocking supplies, and following cleaning and disinfection procedures. The role also involves transporting specimens, adhering to MRI safety protocols, providing supportive care during scans, and screening individuals entering the 5 Gauss line for ferromagnetic materials and other safety concerns.

Responsibilities

Performs patient preparations and screening processes.
Transports patients for the department.
Utilizes Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS.
Maintains a safe working environment, ensuring gurneys are locked, side rails are up, unit is free of hazards, and adhering to infection prevention guidelines.
Follows rules for personal protection and environmental safety, including safe equipment use.
Understands role in maintaining medication security.
Adheres to infection prevention guidelines, including hand washing, isolation policy, and proper disposal of infectious waste.
Transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions.
Demonstrates knowledge and practice of safe patient handling devices.
Follows Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers.
Uses appropriate hand-off communication techniques (SBAR) when bringing patients to and from the department.
Assists outpatients from reception area to the department.
Ascertains patient needs and ensures appropriate gowns are provided.
Ensures patient comfort and confidentiality at all times.
Provides coverage for clerical staff when needed.
Understands and carries out role in department and organizational emergency and disaster plans.
Cleans and maintains all wheelchairs and gurneys.
Meets safety needs of patients, and using equipment safely and properly (O2, Hoyer lift, electric beds).
Assists with answering telephone, scheduling appointments, confirming appointments and answering questions.
Prepares patient’s paperwork for examinations.
Orders and stocks department supplies.
Assists technologist in cleaning and preparing exam room.
Restocks linen and patient care supplies in the department.
Answers the telephone courteously within three rings, identifying self and department, routes calls, ascertains needs and takes accurate messages as appropriate.
Follows cleaning and high-level disinfection of semi-critical devices, policy and procedures.
Transports specimens to the laboratory.
Utilizes MRI safety at all times and watches MRI safety video before working in MRI.
Provides supportive care during patient's scans (hand holding, gentle verbal conversation, simple presence).
Attends to difficult/claustrophobic patients.
Screens visitors, other hospital employees and anyone entering the 5 Gauss line with any and all ferromagnetic materials, pacemakers, ID badges, tools, etc.
