The Imaging Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting patient care within the radiology department. This position involves assisting patients with preparation for exams, providing basic instructions for routine procedures, and transporting patients between rooms and departments. The assistant also manages radiology computer systems for requisitions and patient information, maintains exam rooms by cleaning, stocking, and ordering supplies, and ensures equipment is in order. They are responsible for greeting patients and visitors, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and acting as a liaison between physicians and technologists. Additionally, the Imaging Assistant handles the retrieval and release of health information records and films, compiles film jackets, and documents patient observations. They also perform routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment and assist with screening MRI implants. A key aspect of this role is demonstrating knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care, understanding principles of growth and development, and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.
