About The Position

The Imaging Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive patient experience within the imaging department. This position involves preparing patients for imaging procedures, assisting clinical staff during procedures, managing patient discharge, and acting as a patient ambassador. The role requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work with various hospital systems, and a commitment to patient care and safety. The Imaging Assistant will also provide support to the lead technologist and contribute to departmental improvements.

Requirements

  • IV start competency to be demonstrated and acquired, if not already completed, within 60 days of start date in this role.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
  • Ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.
  • Ability to provide the necessary care as described in the policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Reviews future patients from all OP locations for the upcoming days, utilizing hospital MAR and Information systems.
  • Confirms orders are on file or that patient holds a valid paper order that they will bring along to the procedure visit.
  • Confirms correct scheduled location and exam per order.
  • Reviews bloodwork if needed and confirms results with clinical staff.
  • Reviews allergy history and alerts Team members of positive status.
  • Reviews past IV stick needs, ie need for IV team or Port access and relates Team members of needs.
  • Reschedules patients who need adjusted times or locations in a sensitive helpful manner.
  • Calls patient with appointment reminder and to review appointment instructions.
  • Assists Techs/RN with Patient care.
  • Previews screening forms and alerts Team members of potential issues.
  • Assists patient in changing into gowns and back into street clothing when needed.
  • Transports patients from their ED or inpatient location to the imaging procedure room in a dignified, safe manner.
  • Upon request, transports patients for other units, for example: ED to the floor, from the unit to discharge, etc.
  • Competently manages oxygen, IV pumps, and other key patient equipment before, during and after transport.
  • Works with clinical staff to optimize efficiency of patient schedules.
  • Serves as Chaperone as needed for invasive procedures.
  • Assists clinical staff in all areas of patient comfort: transport, gowning, warmth, sustenance as allowed.
  • Escorts patient out of Imaging procedure areas.
  • Ensures discharge instructions are offered appropriately.
  • Upon request, assists nursing units with patient discharge.
  • Is capable of documenting information in the electronic medical record and capable of basic tasks in image retrieval.
  • Willingly participates in a schedule that requires travel to any modality, building, location where assistance is required.
  • Participates in regular meetings and teams to improve productivity, patient care, image quality, or efficiency.
  • Maintains positive relationships with other departments and ordering providers.
  • Maintains unexpired inventory and supplies.
  • Responds as required to various Shore Health System emergency “codes”.
  • Is vigilant about federal and state laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures patient is prepared and available for the imaging procedure, including reviewing patient information, confirming orders and schedules, checking bloodwork and allergy history, and rescheduling patients as needed.
  • Prepares patients for Imaging Procedures by assisting with patient care, reviewing screening forms, and assisting with gowning and changing.
  • May start or remove IVs.
  • Transports patients from their ED or inpatient location to the imaging procedure room safely and with dignity.
  • Manages oxygen, IV pumps, and other patient equipment during transport.
  • Assists the clinical staff during the procedure with patient care and comfort, including serving as a chaperone and assisting with patient comfort measures.
  • Escorts patients out of Imaging procedure areas and ensures discharge instructions are offered.
  • Performs follow-up phone calls and appointment scheduling as needed.
  • Acts as a patient ambassador to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Documents information in the electronic medical record and performs basic tasks in image retrieval.
  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.
  • Performs job duties in a safe and conscious manner.
  • Provides assistance to the lead technologist, including traveling to any modality, building, or location where assistance is required.
  • Participates in meetings and teams to improve productivity, patient care, image quality, or efficiency.
