About The Position

The Imaging Assistant IV Tech works under the supervision of the technologists to assist in the preparation and performance of patient procedures and exams and must have experience in Venipuncture and IV skills. The Imaging Assistant in the imaging centers are responsible for transporting or guiding patients within the confines of the imaging center. Imaging Assistants are to gather and compile patient histories, priors and pertinent information relating to the patient visit. Imaging Assistants are responsible for distribution and release of patient images/imaging reports to outside requesting facilities. Duties for this position vary slightly from one modality to another depending on the nature of the specific modality and center needs. May be required to occasionally work at other locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate General Studies
  • One (1) year related experience in a hospital or equivalent experience in medical office or clinic.
  • High School GED General Studies
  • One (1) year related experience in hospital or equivalent experience in a medical office or clinic.
  • Venipuncture and IV skills

Responsibilities

  • Assists technologist in set up of procedure according to standards of care and hospital/departmental protocol.
  • Handles laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol, maintaining hospital standard of zero tolerance for mishandled specimens.
  • Reviews and implements the multi-disciplinary Plan of Care for each patient.
  • Collaborates with technologist in implementation of plan.
  • Experience with peripheral IV patency, managed tubing placement to ensure safety during scans, and monitored patients closely for signs of contrast infiltration or adverse reactions.
  • Maintained a sterile field and assembled necessary IV supplies for high-pressure injector systems.
  • Assemble sterile supplies and contrast media for CT, MRI, or Interventional Radiology infusions.
  • Observed patients for immediate adverse contrast reactions or IV site infiltration during scans.
  • Assisted technologists with patient positioning and securing IV tubing to prevent pulling.
  • Consistently demonstrates safe skill implementation and completes equipment/procedural change in-services.
  • Performs technical skills at a level consistent with or higher than level achieved during initial competency checkoff.
  • Documents pertinent patient information on requisition.
  • Completes hospital forms per protocol.
  • Accurately informs Technologist of orders according to SJHMC performance standards.
