About The Position

The Image Exchange Specialist III plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless exchange of medical imaging data within the enterprise. They are responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems related to inbound and outbound image exchange, ensuring that patient images and associated information are readily available for review by physicians. Utilizing the PowerShare application, the specialist integrates patient images into the Radiology PACS system, facilitating efficient access for healthcare providers. This role involves handling incoming phone calls and requests from various stakeholders, including patients, external facilities, Emory providers, and legal offices, who require imaging services. The specialist assists in contacting requesting physicians, obtaining patient information from EPIC, and coordinating prior imaging requests from external facilities. Additionally, they share patient images via various media platforms with external entities, research studies, and legal offices, ensuring compliance with HIPAA guidelines and departmental policies. The Image Exchange Specialist III oversees and coordinates all activities related to sending and sharing Emory Healthcare images, including obtaining authorization for release, burning images onto appropriate media, and mailing them to the requested location. In addition to these responsibilities, the specialist processes inbound PowerShare queues for reference-only exams and uploads images from CDs. They manage the ingestion of external imaging from Emory Teleradiology customers for interpretation by Emory Radiologists. Providing direction and assistance to clinical and research staff in retrieving, distributing, and displaying digital images via web-based PACS applications is also part of their duties. The Image Exchange Specialist III ensures the integrity of the picture archiving system used for image retrieval, distribution, CD creation, and patient data auditing. They act as a super user for relevant systems, software, and workflows, orienting new employees, training other imaging exchange specialists, technologists, clinicians, and radiologists, and creating documentation around proper application use and workflows.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of experience in a Radiology department, medical records, administrative, or healthcare field.
  • Familiarity with specific radiology information applications is required.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and video display terminal.
