ILS Instructor Fluent In American Sign Language (ASL)
About The Position
Thrive Support Services is hiring a part-time Independent Living Skills (ILS) Instructor fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). The instructor works one-on-one with adults with developmental disabilities, supporting them in pursuing personal goals related to independence and participation in their communities. Instruction is personalized, motivating, and professional, with a caseload of approximately 3–6 clients. Clients are located throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties; the office is in Martinez, California, and the listed territory is Fremont, California. No prior experience is required. Training is provided, and the role may offer experience relevant to social work, social services, mental health, or case management. The instructor must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to drive clients to appointments and errands; mileage is reimbursed. Requirements
- Bilingual fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- A desire to help others.
- Reliable vehicle.
- Valid driver's license.
- Auto insurance with $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability coverage.
- Pass a DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, one-on-one instruction to clients with developmental disabilities.
- Support clients in reaching personal goals related to independence and community participation.
- Teach money management.
- Teach medical, dental, and medication management.
- Teach basic cooking and meal preparation.
- Support clients in learning to use public transportation.
- Assist clients with locating affordable housing.
- Support clients in obtaining and maintaining benefits such as Social Security, Medi-Cal, and Medicare.
- Support community involvement and socialization goals.
- Teach household maintenance.
- Drive clients to appointments and errands to help them accomplish their goals.
