About The Position

As an Independent Living Skills (ILS) Instructor, you will work one-on-one with adults with developmental disabilities to help them develop the skills necessary to live independently. You will provide individualized training in areas such as personal care, home management, and social skills. Your role is to empower clients to lead fulfilling and independent lives, contributing to their personal growth and overall well-being. Requirements

  • A deep dedication to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their goals and enhancing their quality of life.
  • A caring, patient, and understanding attitude toward working with clients who have unique needs.
  • Ability to identify challenges and create solutions that help clients overcome barriers to independence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members to ensure clarity and mutual understanding.
  • Strong ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks efficiently, including timely submission of paperwork and documentation to ensure smooth client progress tracking.
  • A keen eye for detail, ensuring all client records, progress reports, and related paperwork are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Reliable transportation for transportation of clients in personal vehicle (gas mileage reimbursed)
  • Valid CA driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and DMV report
  • All potential candidates must pass a background check, drug test, and TB test
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted – OR - weekly proof of negative test (tests not provided by The Arc of Butte County)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or Desire for coaching is beneficial.
  • Seeking bi-lingual speakers (this is a plus, but not a requirement)

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored training to clients to enhance their personal, social, and practical life skills, with a focus on promoting independence.
  • Assist clients in achieving their goals through personalized support, ensuring they acquire skills to live successfully and autonomously in the community.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients to monitor progress, address challenges, and adjust teaching strategies as needed to promote continued development.
  • Use your reliable personal vehicle to transport clients (including children) to and from appointments, shopping, and community activities as needed.
  • Facilitate the integration of clients into the community by encouraging social interactions and helping them build meaningful connections.
  • Work alongside families and other support professionals to ensure clients have the tools and resources they need to succeed.
