About The Position

The IEP Coordinator is responsible for the training of special education teachers and/or paraprofessionals and monitoring of the IEP process. The role involves reviewing educational records, facilitating IEP conferences for students entering alternative schools, preparing and disseminating professional development on FAPE/LRE, SER, and IEP guidelines, and assisting in the collection of SER information. The coordinator will also monitor IEPs, consult with special education teachers on IEP development, plan and oversee Extended School Year (ESY), and provide support regarding federal and state laws and regulations. Additionally, the role assists in collecting compliance data for IDEA and MFP counts, monitors compliance reports, collaborates on special education compliance, reviews and recommends plans for improvement, and conducts class walk-throughs for IEP compliance. The IEP Coordinator attends IEP meetings upon request and implements CPI training and Act 479 processes, as well as district procedures for seclusion and restraint.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited university/college.
Appropriate licensure and/or certification as described in Bulletin 746 of the Louisiana Department of Education.
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in/with students with disabilities.
Strong leadership, organizational, and data management skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration abilities.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
Working knowledge of federal and state laws, policies and regulations relevant to schools.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Google Suite.
Experience writing IE

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree.
Certification in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or appropriately related field.
Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with other professionals, children, and their parents.
Knowledge of SER.

Responsibilities

Reviews educational records and all pertinent information to ensure appropriate IEP content.
Facilitates IEP conferences for identified students with disabilities entering alternative schools in Jefferson Parish Schools.
Prepares, disseminates, and provides Professional Development on FAPE/LRE, SER, and IEP guidelines to special education staff and school personnel.
Assists in the collection of SER (Special Education Records) information for Jefferson Parish Schools students.
Assists in the monitoring of IEPs.
Consults with and supports special education teachers with the development of IEPs.
Plans, organizes, and oversees ESY under the direction of the Director of IDEA.
Provides support to all special education service providers, teachers, and administration regarding federal and state laws and regulations.
Assists in the collection of compliance data for the IDEA and MFP counts.
Monitors compliance reports on a monthly basis.
Collaborates with those providing and overseeing special education to assist with compliance to Federal and State laws.
Reviews and recommends plans to improve compliance within assigned Network.
Conducts class walk-throughs to ensure IEP Compliance.
Attends IEP meetings at schools upon request of the school Executive Director of Special Education Compliance and Pupil Appraisal and Compliance and/or Director of IDEA.
Participates in IEP meetings, which may take place before or after school hours.
Implements and coordinates the CPI training program for district staff.
Implements and monitors Act 479 processes to ensure compliance with state requirements related to behavioral interventions.
Implements and monitors district procedures related to seclusion and restraint.
Attends faculty, staff, and department meetings.
Creates and facilitates Office Hours to take place after school hours.
Creates, facilitates, and participates in Professional Learning/Development that may start before or after work hours.
Develops and implements a training regimen for paraeducators to support effective behavioral and instructional practices.
Oversees the paraeducator Google Classroom platform to support ongoing professional learning and communication.
Sends out Compliance Reports on set dates and monitor compliance.
Attends professional development or training sessions.
Attends job fairs and related events.
Attends Central Office and Department meetings.
Participates in interviews, upon request.
Attends PIP, Evaluation, Observation, IAP, and student discipline meetings/hearings.
Attends school board/committee meetings, upon request.
Participates in the preparation of necessary disciplinary documents and corresponding disciplinary process.
Participates in Manifestation Determination Review meetings that may take place before or after school hours.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA, Executive Director of Compliance and Pupil Appraisal, and/or the Chief of Student Support.
