About The Position

This is a two-year position as part of a two-year pilot program for all-day preschool. The role of the Certified Teaching Certificate with IECE Certification (Itinerant) is to help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. The teacher will provide high quality comprehensive child development services to prepare children for school, implement research-based curricula, and conduct intentional planning based on child outcomes data. The position requires creating a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable, and secure learning environment that values diversity and builds positive relationships with children. The teacher will engage children in meaningful social conversations, support play-based learning, and provide varied experiences that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Individualization of curricula and adaptation of the environment are key to supporting children's learning and development through child goals. The teacher will also maintain daily lesson plans, attendance records, and provide opportunities for parent communication through home visits and conferences. Participation in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development is expected.

Responsibilities

Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, and shows written evidence of preparation.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, established clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Seeks to develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and provides progress reports.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
Develops, with student input, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for student teachers, Special Education student teachers, and teacher aide(s), when applicable, and in cooperation with department heads evaluates their job performance.
Encourages the participation of volunteers and assists in planning and supervising their assignments.
Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, staff, and community.
Provide high quality comprehensive child development services to prepare children for school.
Participate in and support all School Readiness and Family Engagement activities and training as requested.
Implement the program's research-based selected curricula.
Conduct intentional planning based on child outcomes data for intentional teaching.
Provide all children with a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable, and secure learning environment.
Treat each child as an individual in an inclusive community that values, respects, and responds to diversity.
Build positive relationships with all children.
Engage each child in meaningful social conversations daily.
Support play as a way for children to organize their experiences and understand concepts.
Provide a learning environment that offers children experiences, which vary in complexity, as well as support individual interest and abilities.
Provide varied experiences that promote the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.
Incorporate developmentally appropriate strategies to help children learn concepts and skills related to science, social studies, language, literacy, numeracy, art, music, and movement.
Encourage self-control by setting clear, consistent limits, and having realistic expectations.
Adhere to the program's corporal punishment guidelines, and code of conduct and confidentiality policies.
Utilize a variety of strategies to promote and support children's learning and developmental progress based on focused observations and ongoing assessment of each child as documented in Assessment Notebooks and IEP or IFSP documentation.
Individualize the curricula and adapt the environment to promote and support children's learning through the development of child goals.
Provide a daily schedule and intentionally plan for routines and transitions.
Maintain daily lesson plans to implement the curricula.
Maintain documentation of children's daily attendance.
Provide parents opportunities to discuss their concerns and their child's progress through home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
Participate in staff meetings, training, focus groups, and surveys.
Participate in on-going professional development, and college courses, as required, related to early child development.
Identify and meet children and families' needs.
Assist other program staff with the implementation of all program services relevant to children and families.
Other related job duties as assigned.
