IDRA is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to achieve equal educational opportunity through strong public schools that prepare all students to access and succeed in college. IDRA seeks a Deputy Director of Advocacy & Community Partnerships based in or near Austin, Texas. This role is crucial for connecting students, families, educators, and community leaders to advocacy opportunities aligned with IDRA's priorities. The position involves collaborating with IDRA's policy, advocacy, and community engagement teams to develop and implement state-level advocacy strategies. Key activities include in-person advocacy, coordinating coalition engagement (like advocacy days), and building relationships at the Texas Capitol and with relevant agencies and organizations. The role also entails developing campaign strategies, convening, managing, and expanding the Texas Legislative Education Equity Coalition (TLEEC), coordinating issue-specific advocacy campaigns, and representing IDRA in Texas-based coalitions. Supporting other advocacy organizations to execute state-level campaigns and testifying before legislative and state bodies are also core responsibilities. Additionally, the position will support the IDRA Education Policy Fellows program, including curriculum development and direct supervision of Texas-based fellows. The ideal candidate will share IDRA's commitment to educational equity and community voice in policy-making, and possess an understanding of asset-based practices, systemic change, institutional biases, and current education policy issues.
