About The Position

Quakertown Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced ICU Veterinary Technician to join our 24-hour hospital and provide advanced nursing care to hospitalized and critically ill patients. Our ICU team plays an essential role in caring for patients who require close monitoring, intensive treatments, and a higher level of technical support. This position is ideal for a technician who is confident in their skills, comfortable managing complex cases, and thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment. As a multi-species hospital providing general practice, emergency, surgical, and critical care services, Quakertown offers technicians the opportunity to work alongside experienced veterinarians while continuing to strengthen their emergency and critical care skills.

Requirements

  • Experienced technician operating at a high skill level
  • Confidently manage hospitalized and critical patients with limited supervision
  • Strong veterinary technician experience in ICU, Emergency, Specialty, or Critical Care
  • Advanced patient assessment and nursing skills
  • Strong venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills
  • Experience caring for unstable and critically ill patients
  • Confidence administering medications, fluid therapy, and advanced treatments
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately
  • Experience with emergency stabilization and critical care monitoring
  • Strong understanding of veterinary pharmacology and medical terminology
  • Excellent attention to detail and medical recordkeeping
  • Ability to prioritize multiple patients and treatments in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • CVT, LVT, or RVT credentials preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing care for hospitalized and critically ill patients
  • Perform frequent patient assessments and recognize changes in patient status
  • Place and maintain IV catheters
  • Perform venipuncture and collect diagnostic samples
  • Administer IV, IM, SQ, and oral medications as prescribed
  • Calculate and administer CRIs, IV fluids, and medications
  • Monitor fluid therapy and accurately track patient inputs and outputs
  • Perform diagnostic testing and run in-house laboratory samples
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs
  • Provide oxygen therapy and monitor patients requiring respiratory support
  • Monitor ECG, blood pressure, SpO2, temperature, and other critical parameters
  • Assist with emergency triage, stabilization, and critical procedures
  • Provide post-operative and recovery nursing care
  • Manage feeding tubes, urinary catheters, drains, and other supportive-care devices
  • Assist with blood transfusions and closely monitor patients for reactions
  • Maintain detailed, accurate medical records and treatment sheets
  • Communicate patient updates and concerns promptly with veterinarians and the clinical team
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked ICU environment
  • Practice compassionate, low-stress patient handling whenever possible
