About The Position

Bridgehead IT is seeking an experienced Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Technician to support the growing need in the company. The ICT technician will be responsible for the installation of low voltage cabling and equipment as well as integration of all systems to work properly. This position requires knowledge and experience working in the following fields: Structured Cabling Systems, Access Control Systems, Surveillance Systems, and Audio-Visual Systems.

Requirements

  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Some understanding of concepts, principles, and industry practices within own discipline.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • AA/AS Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field/equivalent experience preferred
  • Proficient with all windows based operating systems
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable with our auto insurance carrier during employment.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and use hands to pull cables and wires, use power tools, work in awkward positions, and climb ladders and/or scaffolding.
  • The employee must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI Certification a plus, as well as any manufacturer certifications specific to Structured Cabling, etc.
  • Additional Certifications available by request to your Supervisor
  • Copper/Fiber Optic Certifications preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Install a work area outlet for floor (i.e., monument), modular furniture 9i.e. surface mount box) and wall (i.e., box eliminator).
  • Drop cable down wall using fish tape or other method.
  • Route cable through modular furniture.
  • Perform per-termination procedures: organize, form dress cables, and determine length, slack and label cables.
  • Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, j-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapeze
  • Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware)
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, pull cable through sleeves and core penetration
  • Terminate low-voltage devices
  • Follow prints
  • Fully complete all BIT paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required)
  • Adhere to and participate in all Bridgehead IT, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations
  • Undertakes the installation of data equipment, including data racks, patch panels, cable trays, etc.
  • Utilizes appropriate testing equipment to test installed cables
  • Provides documentation of all information on all cable and equipment
  • Improves upon existing installation and troubleshooting procedures
  • Performs cabling installations, including New Commercial Data, Voice, Fiber Optic and Paging
  • Drives a company vehicle and operates a variety of tools, such as hand tools, power tools, ladders, leakage detection devices, scissor lifts, and test equipment
  • Provides education to customers on the proper use of all installed equipment and address customer concerns
  • Carries out customer instruction on System Operation and Functionality
  • Tests systems and performs signal verification
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures and reports all accidents, hazards, and equipment problems
  • Takes responsibility for installing new cables in new or existing buildings
  • Performs termination and testing of new cabling
  • Responsible for setting up new telecommunications frames
  • Installs Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling systems
  • Builds and installs racks, dresses, and terminates closets, carries out tests and troubleshoots
  • Labels, pulls, and terminates cable
  • Performs maintenance on cable systems by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues
  • Applies established procedures in testing every newly installed or relocated cable
  • Keeps cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standard
  • Documents time and materials expended on work assignment daily
  • Completes required paperwork, such as: installation checklist, timesheets, service orders, vehicle inspection report and various other logs
  • Promotes environmental, health, and safety policies within the workplace
  • Performs installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems
  • Works at heights, poles, and small confined spaces
  • Works outdoors and in inclement weather conditions
  • Installs devices for alarm, fire, access, and automation systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned
