About The Position

St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) seeks candidates for the position of Ice and Building Operations Lead, Drake Arena. This is a non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Arena and Rental Properties Manager. This professional position is responsible for maintaining proper operation and maintenance of Drake Arena, a single sheet facility. The Ice and Building Operations Lead is directly responsible for all ice maintenance and ensuring the arena is maintained, cleaned and is running properly. This position works in a collaborative manner with the St. Paul Academy and Summit School Athletic Department, student athletes, ice rental groups and other users to provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in an ice arena or similar recreational facility.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, including HVAC systems, refrigeration plant and ice resurfacers.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must routinely be able to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Experience and ability to use a desktop computer and software including , Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Calendar and arena ice scheduling software.
  • Experience using Point of Sale (POS) and inventory management software
  • Ability to operate ice resurfacer and other equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to make change and handle money accurately.
  • Ability to be courteous and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to make decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and or with others.
  • Ability to maintain prompt and dependable work.
  • Ability to walk, stand and move throughout an entire shift of daily activities.
  • Standing, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling may be required while working in the ice rink and with rink equipment.
  • Ability to lift, load and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Good eyesight including clear distance, color, peripheral and depth perception vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess the Certified Ice Technician (CIT) certification or ability to receive certification within two (2) years.
  • Two (2) year postsecondary degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for regular operation of ice resurfacer and ice maintenance equipment including edging, blade changes and other routine service.
  • Leads installation, removal and maintenance of the ice sheet including flooding, shaving, painting and ice conditions monitoring.
  • Coordinate the opening and closing of the arena, working a varying schedule including nights and weekends during ice operations.
  • Supervise high school hockey games, college games, tournaments and other large events at the ice arena.
  • Assist with recruiting, selecting, training and supervision of part-time employees.
  • Assists in maintenance activities and follows preventive maintenance programs to arena equipment and building.
  • Carries out janitorial duties of the ice arena to assure a safe and clean facility.
  • Monitors equipment, keeps accurate records of all equipment, assists with monitoring of air quality conditions, identifies and reports any problems to the Arena Manager.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of equipment and supplies in the arena.
  • Customer service; provide information and assistance on the phone, through email and in person.
  • Periodically assist with Grounds Department activities including but not limited to spring and fall clean up, mowing, and snow removal.
  • Perform all other necessary duties as apparent or assigned.
