The ICC Veteran Outreach Coordinator leads efforts to organize events, programming, and community activities that identify and engage Indiana’s Military/Veteran population. This role connects veterans and their families to the IDVA Get Connected Platform, ensuring they access benefits, resources, peer groups, and qualified mental health facilities. To succeed in this position, the coordinator must be compassionate, patient, and serve as a warm and welcoming representative of the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) within the veteran community. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who can genuinely and warmly converse with veterans from all financial, social, and racial backgrounds, ensuring every veteran feels respected and valued. Working under the direct supervision of the IDVA Outreach Director, the ICC Veteran Outreach Coordinator implements strategies to locate veterans in both veteran-focused and everyday public events, meetings, conferences, and community programs expanding outreach beyond traditional veteran channels. This role, under the direction of the Engagement and Outreach Directors, is to plan and execute events for veterans, their families, and the public, with the goal of finding and engaging veterans where they live, work, and socialize. The Outreach Coordinator is vital in linking veterans with the three priorities supporting the ICC mission of suicide prevention working with the Veteran Care Coordinator and the Community Engagement Coordinator in delivering vital community resources and information directly to the veteran community. The coordinator ensures veterans are connected to local organizations, VA Healthcare and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) as well as other qualified community-based mental health resources. Vital to the role are to ensure communications and outreach efforts are cataloged, and connections are curated through the Get Connected Platform to strengthen engagement and support. The position will distribute gun locks and gun safety materials, promote lethal means safety and contribute to suicide prevention initiatives.
