About The Position

The Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the Power Plant and associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical Power Plant equipment and systems. The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the Plant. Requirements

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry, and experience with MP2 or another Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills; ability to work well with others and be self-directed, and to apply creative solutions to unique Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) issues; ability to work from blueprints and to use common computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (for example, hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high-voltage protective equipment), and working with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workloads and Plant conditions. Extensive smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program.
  • Experience in a Power Plant environment, including instrumentation and control systems used in modern power stations, such as burner management, combustion control, boiler controls, turbine controls and machine condition monitoring.
  • Experience with electrical systems used in modern power stations, including 13.8 kV switchgear and motors, 4,160 volt switchgear and motors, 480 volt motors and motor control centers, transformers, batteries, inverters and chargers, main generators and excitation equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its safe work practices, such as Permit to Work, Management of Change and Contractor Safety.
  • Coach and mentor facility employees through engagement on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System and its expectations, and ongoing participation in Health & Safety activities such as inspections, incident investigations and visible felt leadership.
  • Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed before initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or task requirements.
  • Ensure all incidents and potential adverse events, such as near misses, are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site or regional support.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all major equipment and systems, as well as emergency backup systems.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain Plant reliability, and assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of Plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive and predictive maintenance records.
  • Work shifts as required to support the operation of the Plant.
  • Inspect, repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4,160 volts.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and turbine control equipment.
  • Maintain all Plant instrumentation and electrical test equipment.
  • Fully support and participate in ContourGlobal Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
