About The Position

Kent is looking for an I&E Coordinator to support a capital project based in Bay City, TX with periodic travel to regional construction sites as required. You will serve as a key interface between engineering, construction contractors, and project management to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient execution of all electrical, instrumentation, and controls construction activities.

Requirements

  • 10 years' experience in electrical, instrumentation, or controls construction coordination, inspection, or field engineering on industrial, energy, or downstream projects.
  • Strong understanding of I&E construction processes including: Installation of electrical equipment, cable trays, conduit, and grounding; Instrumentation installation and tubing; Control systems, PLC/DCS panels, and marshalling cabinets; Loop checks, function checks, and QA/QC verification.
  • Familiarity with Control of Work, PTW, LOTO, and electrical safe-work coordination in field environments.
  • Experience supporting, I&E walkdowns, turnover documentation, and subsystem/system completions.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, loop sheets, P&IDs, and vendor documentation.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills to ensure effective coordination with contractors, engineering teams, and project leadership.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and prioritizing safety.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with a proactive, solution-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Construction Project Manager for planning, coordination, and execution oversight.
  • Supports daily electrical and instrumentation construction activities, ensuring work aligns with project specifications, drawings, codes, and quality standards.
  • Coordinates with contractors, vendors, and engineering to resolve I&E technical queries and field-level issues.
  • Conducts inspections of electrical and instrumentation installations for quality, construction readiness, and compliance with approved procedures.
  • Oversees installation and construction associated with cabling, conduit, wiring, trays, grounding systems, junction boxes, instrument tubing, control valves, analyzers, and electrical equipment.
  • Verifies completion of construction documentation, redlines, and as-built updates.
  • Supports field execution of loop checks, point-to-point checks, megger testing, continuity testing, instrument calibration, and functional testing.
  • Monitors contractor performance and I&E progress, escalating risks or delays to the I&E Lead.
  • Reviews construction check sheets, ITRs, and verification records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrates strong HSSE leadership and actively reinforces a “safe work always” culture.
  • Participates in required HSE, permit-to-work, electrical safety, and procedural training.
  • Submits daily construction updates, progress reporting, and documentation of completed I&E work.
  • Ensures all team members, contractors, and vendors comply with project safety expectations, electrical safe-work practices, and instrumentation installation standards.
  • Supports I&E punch list generation, walkdowns, and closure in accordance with project standards.
  • Coordinates isolations, LOTO activities, and energized-work boundaries under the direction of the Construction Lead.
  • Understands requirements for equipment installation, MCCs, switchgear, PLC panels, marshalling cabinets, instrument racks, and hazardous-area-rated equipment.
  • Supports engineering and construction teams in preparing system turnover packages and I&E documentation for subsystem completion.
  • Participates in subsystem walkdowns, punch categorization, and readiness verification for pre-commissioning and commissioning.
  • Ensures all I&E deliverables, documentation, and installation practices meet project, client, and industry standards (NEC, ISA, IEEE, etc.).
  • Completes assigned work scope within project schedule expectations and ensures I&E design intent is fully implemented during construction.
  • Performs other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management, within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role.
