Summer 2026 - Hypervelocity Impact Project Intern

About The Position

This is a temporary role not to exceed 13 weeks. The Hypervelocity Impact Project Intern will work closely with JETS II Hypervelocity Impact Technology (HVIT) Group colleagues and NASA customers to execute Micrometeoroid/Orbital Debris (MMOD) risk analysis and hypervelocity impact testing requirements. The role involves performing spacecraft MMOD impact risk assessment, researching spacecraft geometry, material, and operating parameters to support risk analysis, supporting hypervelocity impact testing activities, supporting impact simulation studies, and supporting the development of an impact test database. The intern will also present results to the technical team in both written and verbal formats and support other activities under the HVIT project as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university.
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours.
  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
  • Familiar with basic engineering principles and material properties
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office to generate presentations and reports
  • Demonstration of strong communication skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
