About The Position

NV5 is seeking motivated Hydrographic Surveyors to support and execute marine and coastal hydrographic survey operations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while growing your technical expertise and leadership capabilities. You’ll be part of a collaborative field team responsible for data acquisition, processing, and quality control, using advanced survey technologies in dynamic marine environments. Depending on your level of experience, you will take on increasing responsibility, from supporting field operations to leading survey efforts and mentoring junior staff. This position offers a clear path for career progression, hands-on technical development, and opportunities to work on a wide range of coastal and offshore projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics, Hydrographic, Marine Science, or related field
  • Direct experience conducting hydrographic surveys and handling equipment
  • Working knowledge of GNSS positioning methods (e.g., RTK, VRS, DGPS) and their application in field environments
  • Ability to work effectively in field environments, both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly and work in physically demanding marine conditions
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and data quality

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with multibeam or other acoustic survey data acquisition
  • Experience with hydrographic data processing and QA/QC workflows
  • Familiarity with data integration and survey software (Qinsy, CARIS, Qimera, Hypack, Trimble etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment or support field decision-making
  • Experience working across geospatial disciplines (e.g., hydrographic, topographic, remote sensing)
  • Leadership or mentorship experience in field operations

Responsibilities

  • Collect hydrographic data using multibeam, sidescan, and geophysical systems
  • Operate and configure positioning systems (RTK-GPS, VRS, DGPS)
  • Support survey planning, setup, and execution
  • Assist with mobilization, calibration, and system setup
  • Process and perform QA/QC on survey data
  • Maintain field logs and organized data records
  • Troubleshoot and maintain survey equipment
  • Collaborate with field teams and vessel operators
  • Participate in vessel operations and uphold safety standards
  • Support team development and process improvements
