About The Position

Crown Equipment Corporation is seeking a Hydraulic Systems Engineer to provide hydraulic engineering expertise in the specification, design, development, and product support of hydraulic systems for lift trucks. This role involves proposing hydraulic systems to meet vehicle performance and reliability goals, developing specifications, designing systems, and specifying components. The engineer will oversee design activities for prototyping and launching approved systems and components in conformance with company and industry standards. Responsibilities also include designing and evaluating hydraulic system and component performance through testing, making component selection recommendations, and interfacing with internal and external suppliers. The role requires maintaining awareness of vendor product offerings, searching for specific components, supporting project leadership by assisting with project plans and schedules, providing status reports, and offering technical support to other engineers. Additionally, the engineer will assist with production test requirements, potentially lead or direct the work of others, stay informed of advances in hydraulic technologies, attend training and conferences, review colleagues' designs, and support other functional groups such as test, service, legal, manufacturing, purchasing, and vendors. The position is primarily onsite with limited hybrid remote work options and may offer relocation assistance.

Requirements

Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or related degree
5 years of experience with hydraulic systems
Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through work experience
Good written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Ability to occasionally travel with overnight stays (0-5%)
Reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in modeling software such as Automation Studio or MATLAB/Simulink
Ability to conduct detailed root cause analysis using tools such as Fault Tree Analysis, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa Diagram
Experience with Mobile and Agricultural Hydraulic Systems
Proficiency with CAD Software such as Siemens NX or PTC-Creo
Experience with ANSI, ISO, SAE, and EN standards
Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles
Experience with new product cost estimation techniques

Responsibilities

Propose hydraulic systems to satisfy vehicle performance and reliability goals.
Develop specifications to meet goals, design systems, and specify components.
Oversee design activities necessary to develop, prototype, and launch an approved system and components in conformance with company and industry standards.
Design specific testing as required to evaluate system and component performance, monitor testing, review and evaluate results, and compile related documentation.
Make recommendations for component selection.
Interface with internal and external suppliers to ensure performance and reliability goals are achieved.
Maintain an awareness of vendor product offerings and product development activities to support concept development activity.
Search the field for particular components as needed to support system design activity.
Support supervisor with creation of project plans/schedules and provide status reports as required.
Provide technical support to other engineers as required.
Assist with creation of production test requirements.
May lead/direct the work of others.
Stay informed of advances and pertinent changes in hydraulic tools, processes, and technologies.
Attend training courses, conferences and meetings on application of new technology.
Review colleagues' designs.
Support other functional groups such as test, service, legal, manufacturing, purchasing and vendors as warranted.
Perform other duties as assigned.
