The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Calibration Engineer leads calibration development for assigned functional items in the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (EVCU), from the first dyno through early mule vehicle development and production of next-generation xHEV propulsion systems. The role applies and optimizes control systems for production, documents and justifies EVCU calibration changes through development and test plans, and presents changes to the lead calibrator and senior management as appropriate. The engineer participates in or leads Center of Excellence teams for their functional areas, reviews new calibrations and software change requests at each software release, coordinates calibration merges with other functional leads, and is responsible for production release of EVCU software and calibrations. The engineer supports dyno commissioning and first-run activities, collaborates with the EVCU controls team to ensure features work sufficiently and efficiently, and trains calibration engineers and others in ePT vehicle and controls operation. The role also supports development trips and reports activities to senior management, promotes CoE best practices, and serves as the lead contact for system issues in the assigned functional area. Success requires effective collaboration and a team-oriented approach. Responsibilities include system and cross-feature calibration and validation; first-run support for HIL, dyno, and vehicle properties; leading validation of PCR packages to identify hardware, software, and calibration deficiencies before hard release; FE/emissions support; development trips; trip, daily-drive, and fleet data summaries to assess calibration maturity for QG milestones; AVL drive-testing scheduling, triage, and improvement implementation; and issue resolution support, including GIMs and IMS.
