About The Position

Installs, repairs, and services industrial, commercial, and residential environmental control systems by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus 12 to 18 months formal related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years skilled HVAC installation, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to utilize computerized HVAC control systems for programming settings and schedules.
  • Ability to utilize email, electronic time card software and other relevant software for communicating and performing job functions.
  • Must possess HVAC License for State of Tennessee.
  • Must possess valid Tennessee Driver's License.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and take appropriate actions.
  • Skill in soldering.
  • Must be able to operate computerized equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrician’s license preferred but not required.
  • Possession of other general maintenance skills not directly related to HVAC that allows for cross-training and flexibility of scheduling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs air conditioning and heating units and systems, refrigeration systems, pneumatic controls, pumps, fans, and motors; periodically overhauls air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Installs air conditioning (both window and central systems) and heating units; installs piping, pipe cover insulation, pumps, motors, and refrigeration systems.
  • Periodically inspects, tests, and diagnoses air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems, performing preventive maintenance such as: cleaning and changing filters, lubricating motors, tightening belts in order to ensure serviceable condition of systems; checking for needed repairs and compliance with work orders, blueprints, specifications, handbooks, and established procedures.
  • Drives vehicle to pick up and deliver personnel and materials.
  • Assists with monitoring inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Depending on current work load, other duties in the Facilities Department may be assigned as needed.
