About The Position

The HVAC Training Technician is responsible for evaluating, designing, and delivering hands-on technical training for residential HVAC service technicians. This role focuses primarily on in-field instruction, coaching, and skill development, with limited in-office time for training preparation and documentation. Commercial work is rare, and training is centered on residential systems, diagnostics, and service best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on residential HVAC service experience
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills on residential HVAC systems
  • Proven ability to train, coach, or mentor technicians in a hands-on environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, rooftops, ladders, and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work with tools for extended periods

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate technical skill levels of residential HVAC service technicians through ride- alongs , jobsite observations, and performance assessments
  • Design and deliver hands-on, field-based training for individuals and groups
  • Conduct group training sessions, workshops, and on-the-job demonstrations
  • Provide one-on-one technical coaching to technicians at varying experience levels
  • Reinforce proper diagnostics, repair procedures, maintenance standards, and customer-facing best practices
  • Ensure training aligns with residential HVAC codes, safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures
  • Reinforce safety protocols including electrical safety, refrigerant handling, PPE usage, and ladder and attic safety
  • Promote consistent troubleshooting processes, correct tool usage, and quality workmanship
  • Develop and update residential HVAC training materials, checklists, and job aids
  • Prepare training plans based on observed skill gaps and performance trends
  • Document training sessions, technician progress, and competency improvements
  • Support onboarding and technical ramp-up of new residential service technicians
  • Identify recurring technical issues and training opportunities within the residential service team
  • Stay current on residential HVAC equipment, tools, and industry best practices
  • Recommend improvements to training methods and technical standards
