About The Position

The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing service, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems serving University Housing–managed properties. This includes, but is not limited to, heat pumps, large air handling units (AHUs), Energy Recovery Units (ERUs), chilled water and steam distribution systems (including connections to AHUs), and associated mechanical, electrical, and control components. The Technician monitors, operate, and maintains HVAC control systems, including Johnson Controls systems, and demonstrates competent, working knowledge of the Metasys Building Automation System (BAS) to support efficient system operation, energy management, and occupant comfort. All work is performed in accordance with departmental standards, University HVAC protocols, applicable safety practices, and regulatory codes. The ideal candidate must have the availability to take afterhours call outs. This position requires the ability to understand, maintain, and troubleshoot multiple HVAC systems and controls while ensuring work is completed in a high-quality, professional manner. The HVAC Technician also provides technical guidance and training to maintenance generalists, supporting proper HVAC maintenance procedures, safe work practices, and consistent operational standards across the team. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of the position, as is the ability to establish and maintain cooperative, and professional working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and University Housing occupants.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: For HVAC Mechanic I (Entry Rate $57,399) At least 5 years of related experience
  • Experience performing troubleshooting to resolve complex issues
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum Qualifications: For HVAC Mechanic II (Entry Rate $63,139) At least 7 years of related experience
  • Experience performing advanced troubleshooting to resolve complex issues
  • Experience directing and managing projects
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of HVAC building codes
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heat pumps and commercial HVAC systems
  • Class B HVAC License in accordance with ACA 17-33-301
  • Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys System
  • Additional related HVAC certifications
