This position requires a Journeyman Mechanical Certificate of Competency in Air Conditioning issued by Broward County. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the required Certificate of Competency at the time of hire. If the position cannot be filled by a candidate who holds the required certificate, candidates who do not currently possess the certificate may be considered and hired as trainees and will be required to obtain the Journeyman Mechanical Certificate of Competency in Air Conditioning issued by Broward County within two (2) years of their date of hire. An employee in this class receives and processes work orders relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and heating equipment, ice machines, cooling towers, pumps, pneumatic equipment, water coolers, and other related equipment for various facilities citywide. This is skilled, journeyman level mechanic work of more than average difficulty in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and related equipment. The employee usually works alone under general supervision and must exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in determining action to be taken.
