The HVAC Technician will install and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including overhauling compressors, changing cooling units, fitting rings, bearings, belts, and shafts, and repairing cooling/heating coils. The role involves installing and maintaining pneumatic electronic control systems, adjusting and calibrating control devices and valves. Additionally, the technician will service and maintain plant and instrument compressed air systems, oil burners, and low-pressure steam and hot water heating systems. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining various piping systems such as steam/condensate, chilled water, process cooling, plant/instrument air, potable water, glycol, and refrigerant. The position requires providing 24-hour emergency response for mechanical systems and assisting fellow trade and service workers. The job involves climbing and maneuvering on ladders, staging, and work platforms, as well as working in tight spaces and around equipment in construction areas. The candidate will be on their feet for 80-90% of the time and may be required to work during the laboratory's two steam shutdowns. The selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
