About The Position

Under general supervision, the HVAC Technician 1st Class performs skilled HVAC work on a variety of equipment, including chillers, condensers, air conditioners, boilers, and ice machines. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems, including cleaning, adjusting, and troubleshooting components. Work is performed in accordance with safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards. Because the Authority has a responsibility to serve the public 24 hours a day, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and may be called back on short notice during power outages and other emergencies. Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of safety practices and procedures, and occupational hazards of the trade.
  • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating.
  • Working knowledge of boiler systems.
  • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
  • Must possess a valid Virgin Islands driver’s license.
  • Must possess the ability to complete required safety courses.
  • Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Must wear all required personal protective equipment while on the authority’s premises.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Available for overtime and weekend work, as needed.
  • Ability to utilize a computer, work tablet, or other electronic devices to access drawings, document work, and perform training.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.
  • Change and clean filters on a regular basis.
  • Wash and clean the blower and condenser cores periodically.
  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and cleaning of ice machines and chillers.
  • Diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Cleaning, adjusting, and repairing systems, and performing warranty / preventative maintenance services.
  • Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Installation, maintenance, repairing, insulation, and cleaning of ventilation ducts, grills, and dampers.
  • Keeping daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Complying with service standards, work instructions, and customers' requirements.
