About The Position

As an HVAC Technician for our industrial client based in Edmonton, you'll maintain and service heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems that are essential to critical industrial operations. This hands-on role requires technical expertise combined with strong safety awareness as you work in an environment where system reliability directly impacts operational continuity. Your work will include performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing system failures, executing repairs, and responding to service calls across the site. You'll collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager, fellow technicians, and vendors to ensure all HVAC systems operate at peak performance while adhering to strict safety protocols and industry regulations that govern industrial environments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with completion of accredited HVAC technical training program or apprenticeship
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on HVAC maintenance and repair experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities
  • Valid HVAC/R certification or trade license as required: Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (RACM)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC) used in HVAC applications
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety regulations including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, working at heights, environmental compliance and industrial safety protocols
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting equipment up to 50 lbs, working in tight spaces, climbing ladders, and operating aerial lifts
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NATE (North American Technician Excellence), or equivalent industry credentials
  • Experience working in oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, or other industrial environments with critical HVAC requirements
  • Knowledge of chiller systems, boiler operations, steam systems, and industrial ventilation specific to process support applications
  • Familiarity with energy management principles and participation in sustainability or efficiency improvement initiatives
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work order completion and preventive maintenance tracking
  • Basic welding, pipefitting, or millwright skills that complement HVAC technical capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on HVAC equipment including chillers, boilers, air handlers, exhaust systems, and rooftop units according to scheduled maintenance plans
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures in HVAC systems using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge, then execute repairs efficiently to minimize downtime
  • Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns promptly, troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions to restore system functionality in critical operational areas
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and adjust HVAC controls to optimize performance, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality while maintaining required environmental conditions
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and system observations in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with accurate work order notes and parts usage
  • Maintain inventory of HVAC parts and supplies, coordinate procurement of materials through proper channels, and manage tool and equipment calibration schedules
  • Identify safety hazards and potential equipment failures during routine inspections, escalating concerns to the Facilities Manager and EH&S team to prevent incidents
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors during major repairs, retrofits, or installations to ensure work meets specifications and facility standards
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements specific to industrial oil and gas environments
