About The Position

The HVAC Supervisor will provide journeyman level expertise in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and related refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical trade proficiency, the ability to work independently, sound decision making skills, and effective communication and collaboration abilities. This role also includes training, mentoring, and supervising offender labor in support of construction and maintenance projects. The HVAC Supervisor ensures all mechanical installations performed by CAP meet project scope, budget, schedule, and comply with NC Building Codes under the direction of the CAP Mechanical Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification Type II or Universal License required. (Required to handle refrigerant)

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of refrigeration theory, operating (BAU) building automation systems, troubleshooting (DDC) Direct Digital Controls.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control circuits.
  • Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors, design and operation of pneumatic control systems, practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to train and supervise other workers, to design smaller air-conditioning systems or design modifications to larger systems, to review and critique plans and specifications for air-conditioning systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment, including HVAC and refrigeration components.
  • Read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate and code compliant work.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise offender labor crews to develop mechanical trade skills and maintain safe, productive work practices.
  • Oversee construction, renovation, and major maintenance work to ensure alignment with project scope, timeline, budget, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Superintendent and project teams to plan tasks, resolve technical issues, and ensure quality control across all mechanical trade activities.
