About The Position

The CAP HVAC Supervisor is responsible for providing advanced mechanical trade expertise in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and mechanical systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and refrigeration equipment. The ideal candidate will possess journeyman level skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently, accurately interpret blueprints, and perform a wide range of assigned mechanical duties. This role requires strong knowledge of construction methodologies, solid decision making abilities, effective communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate within a team environment. The position also includes training, mentoring, and supervising offender labor while ensuring all mechanical installations performed by CAP meet project scope, budget, schedule, drawings, specifications, and NC Building Codes under the direction of a CAP Mechanical Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in the installation, construction, and/or repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration equipment, including but not limited to chillers, air handlers, pumps, ventilators, fans, boilers, piping, mini splits, ice makers, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and/or equipment used within the engineering construction trades relating to the construction of buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience with the installation and/or operation of pneumatic building automation and/or control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and/or repair complex electrical control circuits.
  • Experience with reading schematics and/or blueprints.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification Type II or Universal (required to handle refrigerants)

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled journeyman level HVAC and mechanical system installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Read, interpret, and apply mechanical plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Lead, train, and supervise offender labor in safe and effective mechanical trade practices.
  • Ensure all mechanical work complies with project scope, budget, schedule, and applicable NC Building Codes.
  • Coordinate daily work activities and communicate project needs with the Mechanical Superintendent.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure proper operation and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of mechanical work, materials, and progress.
  • Support construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects by providing expert mechanical guidance and oversight.
