About The Position

Mullins Mechanical is hiring an HVAC Superintendent to direct field commissioning activities on assigned projects. The position oversees commissioning personnel and coordinates startup and testing across HVAC, plumbing, process piping, mechanical equipment, controls, and integrated building systems. The superintendent develops startup schedules, coordinates with project teams and external vendors, tracks deficiencies and commissioning records, and supports system turnover and closeout. The role reports to the Field Operations Director and requires extensive travel to assigned project sites. Work takes place in outdoor and industrial indoor construction environments, including data centers, mechanical rooms, and manufacturing facilities, often around heavy equipment, multiple trades, noise, and changing weather conditions. The job includes physically demanding work and safety-critical duties, including work at heights and in confined or restricted spaces.

  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, process piping, controls, startup, or commissioning.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience leading field operations on large-scale construction projects.
  • Extensive experience with equipment startup, testing, balancing, controls integration, and system commissioning.
  • Thorough understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, startup procedures, and integrated building systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment submittals, control diagrams, and sequences of operation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, and specialty vendors during commissioning activities.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb ladders and stairs repeatedly, and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain and in outdoor conditions that may include extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • Ability to work in noisy, dusty, dirty, fume-producing, tight, or congested areas, including industrial indoor environments and spaces with varying lighting.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness, recognize hazards, follow written and verbal instructions, and make safe decisions in changing conditions.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to identify hazards, read instructions, and communicate in high-noise environments.
  • Full use of hands, arms, legs, and balance to safely navigate job sites and perform tasks.
